The Evening News:

The evening news names the newest sexual abuse cases. A Rabbi for one and a school bus driver. There is NO place that is risk free for our children. 

Remember that most victims of abuse know their abuser. So important to sit down and eat meals with your children and spend time talking to them. Even then it may not be possible to protect them but you must always try.

Obituary:

"...I remembered the smell of his breath, the tone of his voice and his piercing stare. Out of habit, I scanned the obits for his name and finished my coffee."

Rape in the Fields:

In June 2013, PBS Frontline aired a segment about the sexual exploitation of migrant field workers in the United States called Rape in the Fields. The news story was released by PBS in both English and Spanish. Crops in the story were referred to as "field of panties." At the time of the airing of this news documentary, no criminal prosecutions had been brought forward by farm workers and no reliable statistics were available. It is clearly a huge problem and hardship for the victims.

On the news (this week in October 2013) 30 cases of rape in the fields had been reported in Watsonville. Many people fear losing their jobs.

Someone asked me today where to start writing...
Use a prompt such as above,
You can look at a family picture,
pull up a memory,
look in a  desk drawer,
answer a question,
start from your birth,
work you way backwards starting today,
OR
 you might have interpreted that to mean 'where...'
in the living room,
at a coffee shoppe,
in the kitchen,  in your car, at your office,
the park, the patio, the porch,, the couch,
anyplace where you won't get disturbed unless you want to be.

As we all so often hear...
just START writing.

Holiday:

Monday is a holiday. October 14th.  Are your plans productive?
Do you end up cleaning and doing the errands and chores on
the days you have off or do you relax and enjoy the day?
I love to hang the flag on these days. It's such a reminder
of this great country. It's hard to remember how wonderful this great nation is of ours when there is so much discourse. But I am grateful to live here. Thank you God for our great country and for the persons who first arrived. Prayers for our president and congress. I prefer to make our holidays holy days and attend Mass in Thanksgiving.

A Living Rosary:

Tonight I was part of a living Rosary.
50 people gathered  seated in a circle with an unlit candle.
As each Hail Mary was said, a candle was lit...then that person lit the next persons
on the next Hail Mary. (And the lights were dimmined)
We said the Five  JOYFUL mysteries:
(Annunciation, Visitation, Birth of Our Lord, Presentation of our Lord
and finding of Our Lord in the Temple)

Between the decades songs were song by Donna Lee, Gretchen Harris,
John Grasadonia and Deacon Patrick Conway.

It was very beautiful and touching.
Held at Resurrection Parish in Aptos.
